Gabriel Flick was born about 1812 in Lycoming, Pennsylvania.² He and Elizabeth Wintersteen Blue were married on 20 March 1834 in Lycoming Co., PA. He and Mary F. Lutz were married in 1850. He died on 11 February 1877, at age ~65, in Delaware, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, United States.¹

According to 1850 census, Gabriel was a distiller by trade. He lived in
Lycoming County, Wolf Township, Pensylvania.

There is something wrong with the Gabriel information.

I have the 1850, 1860, and 1870 Census' and all 3 of them show his wife as Mary, not Elizabeth. Although I've seen her name listed as Mary Elizabeth Wintersteen Blue on a few peoples trees, I've never seen any official documentation to that effect.

*Update: After speaking with Anita at the East Lycoming Historical Society, we discovered that Elizabeth died at the age of 39, which would be 1850. Later that year, Gabriel remarried, to a woman named Mary F. Lutz, this is why the 1850, 1860 and 1870 census' show his wife's name as Mary and not Elizabeth.

There's also an issue with 2 of his 3 children. The 1850 Census shows that Sylvester seems to be correct. And although the dates on his daughter and other son seem consistent, the names on the census are not even close to what most people have in their databases.

Instead of Hannah Jane, his daughter's name is listed on the census as Pricilla for her first name and something unintelligible for her middle name.

Instead of Thomas L, his other son's name is listed as what looks like Thor or Thom for his first name and Montgomery for his middle name.

*Update: I wonder if Mary F. Lutz had children of her own and that's where the confusion comes from? The ages of Thom/Thor and Pricilla indicate they are much too old to be Hannah and Thomas.

In addition, the 1860 census shows a 9 year old boy whose name appears to be George Dieter. I've never heard of a George Dieter and no tree I've ever seen has this name listed anywhere.

*Update: According to Anita with ELHS, Hannah Jane and her husband, Charles Purcell, raised one of Sylvester's grandchildren. Sylvester's daughter Martha Jane and her husband Jared Miller had several children, but records show that George Miller was raised by Charles and Hannah. George Miller could not be George Dieter. George Dieter was 9 years old in 1860 and Hannah Jane wasn't born until 1856. George Dieter's DOB is 1851, a year after Gabriel married Mary Lutz, so this seems to be his son. I don't know why I can't find any information about him.

*Update: Jun 2024, Out of nowhere, I came across a death certificate for John Flick who died in 1913 in New York. On the death certificate, his father is listed as Gabriel Flick, his mother is listed as Elizabeth Blue. The death certificate says he was 74 years old at the time of his death. This means he would have been born in 1838, I've never seen or heard of a son of Gabriel or Elizabeth named John. John is not listed on the 1850 census report and he would have been about 12 years old at the time. Why is he not listed on the census? Gabriel Flick was born in 1812 in Wolf, Lycoming, Pennsylvania, United States.¹ He resided in Wolf, Lycoming, Pennsylvania, in 1850.¹ He resided in Delaware, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, United States, in 1860.¹ He resided in Delaware, Northumberland, Pennsylvania, United States, in 1870.¹ He died on 11 February 1877, at age ~65, in Delaware Twp, Northumberland, Pa.

Elizabeth Wintersteen Blue was born in 1811 in Wolf, Lycoming, Pennsylvania, United States.^1,2 She and Gabriel Flick were married on 20 March 1834 in Lycoming Co., PA. She died in 1850, at age ~39, in Wolf Twp., Lycoming Co., PA, b.¹

Elizabeth Wintersteen Blue was also known as Mary. She was also known as Mary Wintersteen Blue. Mary's (Flick] maiden name is suspected to be "Blue". This stems from the fact that various "Blue" family members lived in the Lycoming Co. area and that her son's, Sylvester, middle name was "Blue" I have seen her name listed as both Mary and Elizabeth. I do not know if someone made a mistake or if Sylvester was married twice.

UPDATE: Carolee Baldwin says she found info that Elizabeth Blue was Gabriel's first wife and that a Mary F. was his second wife.
