Mary H. Flick (1929 - 2011)

Mary H. Flick, 81, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Jacksonville Convalescent Center in Jacksonville.

She was born Aug. 28, 1929, in Henry, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Kate Haas Hauber. She married Layo Neil Flick on July 26, 1953, at the Henry Christian Church in Henry, and he survives.

Mrs. Flick is also survived by three daughters, Anne E. (husband, Steve) Poznic of Villa Grove, Nancy (husband, Bruce) Cook of Aurora and Mary Kay Flick of Cary, N.C.; and four grandchildren, Greg Poznic and Ben Poznic, both of Villa Grove, and Andrew Cook and Timothy Cook, both of Aurora. One brother, Robert Hauber, preceded Mrs. Flick in death.

Mrs. Flick earned her Bachelor of Science in Home Economics Education from the University of Illinois in Champaign in 1951. She lived at 4-H House Cooperative Sorority for four years while attending the university. She taught for two years at Roseville and three years at Kinderhook before moving with her husband to Jacksonville. She began as a full-time substitute teacher in Jacksonville and worked in the local schools for 20 years, retiring in 1989.

Mrs. Flick was an active member of Central Christian Church and served in many capacities, including deaconess. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, especially in the eastern and southern states, where she could indulge in her passion for history and oronthology. She served as a 4-H Leader for many years and was a member of the 4-H Advisory Board. She also enjoyed walking and crossword puzzles.

A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday at Williamson Funeral Home. The family will meet friends from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the funeral home. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Memorials are suggested to Lincoln Memorial Gardens, where Mrs. Flick enjoyed walking.
